Wrong-way driver killed in multi-vehicle crash on I-5 near Arlington

A vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 when it crashed into two other cars on Monday.

ARLINGTON, Wash. — One person was killed and three others were injured after a crash involving a vehicle driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 near Arlington on Monday. 

A 43-year-old Arlington man was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-5 near 236th Street NE when he crashed into two vehicles around 1:20 p.m., according to information from Washington State Patrol. 

The wrong-way driver was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center, where he later died, according to State Patrol.

Three other people were taken to Providence for injuries. One person involved in the crash was not injured. 

Traffic backed up at least 8 miles before the scene was cleared, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Traffic was diverted to state Route 530, according to Washington State Patrol.
