Suspected DUI driver crashes into car on I-5, killing man

State patrol troopers said the suspect driver crashed into another car, killing the other driver.

MILTON, Wash. — A man suspected of DUI was accused of crashing into another car on Interstate 5 late Sunday night, killing the other driver.

The suspected driver, a 26-year-old Auburn man, was driving on southbound I-5 about 11:40 p.m. just north of the Pierce County line in Milton when Washington State Patrol (WSP) said he collided into the back of another car. Both cars spun out, and the suspect vehicle came to rest about 500 feet ahead of the scene, according to WSP.

The driver of the other car, a 35-year-old man from Goshen, Ind., was killed.

One passenger in the suspect vehicle was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way. Another passenger was not injured.

WSP said the suspect driver was suspected of DUI and vehicular homicide. Troopers said they would refer obstruction charges for the passenger in the suspect vehicle who was injured.

The roadway was closed for about four hours and 37 minutes, according to WSP. The lanes have since reopened.

Both cars were totaled.
