Montlake Boulevard will be closed this weekend

Montlake Boulevard in Seattle will be closed from Friday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. for construction on WSDOT's 520 Montlake Project.

SEATTLE — Montlake Boulevard in Seattle will be closed from Friday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.

The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close a two-block section of the road from East Louisa Street to Lake Washington Boulevard.

The closure is part of WSDOT's 520 Montlake Project. Crews will be prepping the site for a three-acre lid over State Route 520 by adding a draining system, removing trees and repaving the road.

The landscaped freeway lid would provide a new open community space and trail connections.

"Drivers who are going, say, from Capitol Hill to U-District, if you are going north using Montlake Boulevard this will not be a good weekend for you to be driving," WSDOT Spokesperson Steve Peer said.

There will be detours at Boyer Avenue, so drivers can get through, but they should expect delays.

More than 70,000 people drive north on Montlake Boulevard on weekends.

WSDOT is encouraging people to bike or walk and to plan travel ahead of time.
