SEATTLE — Multiple lanes of Interstate 5 will be closed in Seattle this weekend as Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews work on projects impacting both northbound and southbound lanes.
Up to three right lanes of southbound I-5 between the Interstate 90 interchange and South Holgate Street will be closed from 7:30 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday as crews continue work on the Revive I-5 project. However, some work on recent weekends was been completed early and crews were able to reopen the roadway ahead of schedule.
The westbound and eastbound I-90 off-ramps to southbound I-5 will also be closed this weekend, but the WSDOT said the ramps will temporarily reopen for up to three hours after the “completion of stadium events.”
The department said drivers using the southbound I-5 collector/distributor will have access to the off-ramps but will not be able to continue to southbound I-5 beyond them. The Spring and James streets on-ramps to southbound I-5 will only be to access the off-ramps, but drivers won’t be able to continue to southbound I-5. Click here for more information.
There will also be lane reductions of northbound I-5 through downtown Seattle this weekend.
The two right lanes of northbound I-5 will be closed between the Cherry Street on-ramp and the off-ramp to Olive Way from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Those on and off-ramps will also be closed until Monday morning.
The WSDOT warned drivers heading into Seattle Saturday about increased congestion between 3-11 p.m. on both directions of I-5, I-90 and State Route 99 due to the 5 p.m. Kenny Chesney concert at Lumen Field.
Drivers should expect congestion and plan alternative routes with the number of closures planned.
