SEATTLE — There will be lane reductions on southbound Interstate 5 through Seattle beginning Friday evening and finishing early Monday morning, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The road will be reduced to two lanes from Albro Place to mid-Boeing field beginning as early as 9 p.m. on June 7. The lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on June 10.
The objective of this weekend's work is to replace concrete near the Military Road bridge. The project also includes overnight lane reductions during the workweek, during which crews complete additional work like grinding rough surfaces and removing ruts in the road, according to WSDOT.
Lane and ramp closures on northbound and southbound I-5 are expected to continue between Seattle and Tukwila through until this fall.
Revive I-5
Revive I-5 is an overarching effort by WSDOT to revive Interstate 5 between King and Snohomish counties, according to the project website. The freeway was built in the 1960s and requires major preservation and renovation work, the agency said.
Projects will include pavement repair and full replacement, expansion joints and seismic work to strengthen bridges against earthquakes. In order to lessen the impact on traffic, the effort has been split up into several different projects to revive Interstate 5 one section at a time.
