SEATTLE — A three-vehicle crash that blocked all lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle Monday afternoon caused a major traffic backup.
The crash occurred south of James Street. The Washington State Department of Transportation posted about the crash just before 3 p.m. on X, formerly Twitter.
Traffic was getting by on the shoulder as crews worked to clear the scene.
Traffic was backed up at least 5 miles as lanes began to reopen around 3:45 p.m.
One person was reportedly trapped and was rescued, according to the Seattle Fire Department. The 41-year-old man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
