SOUTHWORTH, Wash. — The Southworth Fast Ferry from Kitsap County to downtown Seattle begins its regular service Monday.
Kitsap Transit will operate the passenger-only route, which will have four trips to Seattle on weekday mornings and five trips to Southworth on weekday afternoons. Saturday sailings are suspended due to COVID-19.
The route will take about 26 minutes, according to Kitsap Transit.
For the project, Kitsap Transit built two 250-passenger boats, one of which is still under construction due to disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The agency also developed additional bus service to relieve traffic congestion at the Southworth Ferry Terminal. Trips were added to Routes 85-Mullinex Express and 86-Southworth Shuttle. A new Route 184 also offers shuttle service between the Harper Church Park & Ride and the Southworth Ferry Terminal.
The Southworth Fast Ferry is the third fast ferry that Kitsap Transit will operate in addition to routes in Bremerton and Kingston.
The public can ride the Southworth Fast Ferry fare-free through the end of April. Once fare collection begins in May, riders will pay $2 for eastbound rides to Seattle and $10 for westbound rides to Kitsap County.
