SR 520 to close this weekend across Lake Washington

State Route 520 closure across Lake Washington will begin Friday at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, according to WSDOT.

SEATTLE — State Route 520 across Lake Washington will close this weekend due to ongoing construction projects

Here's what you should know before hitting the road.

The closure will begin Friday at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said the closure will be suspended for three hours from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday to allow the Seafair Torchlight Parade.

WSDOT said crews will open the following during the three-hour suspension:

  • Northbound I-5 ramp to eastbound SR 520
  • One eastbound SR 520 lane from I-5 to the Eastside
  • SR 520 eastbound off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard

The weekend closure is a part of the SR 520 Montlake Project and will include work on lighting under the Montlake Lid and realigning and expanding the westbound off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard. Crews working on the SR 520 I-5 Express Lanes Connection Project will be repaving the westbound SR 520 ramp to southbound I-5.

Drivers are asked to consider alternate routes and to prepare for delays.

Following the weekend closure, WSDOT said drivers will begin to use the "new and improved" westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard.

The three-acre lid over SR 520, which will include a green space and a new transit area, is expected to open this fall.
