Here are two major road closures starting this weekend

Drivers should be prepared for a longer weekend commute in these areas.

SEATTLE — Drivers planning to drive across Lake Washington on state Route 520 or through Interstate 405 in Renton should be prepared for a longer weekend commute.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said the roadways will be closed starting Friday night and reopen early Monday.

Transportation officials said the SR 520 closure will span from Interstate 5 in Seattle to 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill on the east side and include all the associated on- and off-ramps. The SR 520 trial will also be closed for bicyclists, pedestrians and people using mobility devices across the lake. These closures are scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Friday and wrap up at 5 a.m. Monday.

WSDOT said crews will be testing lighting and a new fire suppression system under the newly formed Montlake Lid, paving, and working on a highway sign bridge as part of the SR 520 Montlake Project. While the highway is closed WSDOT said crews working on the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project will test soil conditions under SR 520.

Contractors will spray a sealant on the SR 520 bridge to protect it from corrosion, which WSDOT said will help the structure remain in good repair during its expected 75-year lifespan.

Drivers should plan for closures along I-405 as officials continue its I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project. Northbound I-405 will be closed in Renton from state Route 169 to state Route 167, beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday. The highway will reopen at 4 a.m. Monday, according to WSDOT.

The northbound I-405 off-ramp to SR 169 (exit four) and SR 167 on-ramp to northbound I-405 will be closed during this time.
