SEATTLE — State Route 520 will close over Lake Washington this weekend, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Both directions of SR 520 will close between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue in Clyde Hill starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, until 5 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 3.
During the closure, crews will shift the alignment of SR 520 lanes near Seattle's Montlake neighborhood to create a work zone between the east and westbound lanes, according to WSDOT. The project will ultimately build a new lid over SR 520 as part of the $455 million SR 520 Montlake project.
The project also will build a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge over SR 520 and new eastbound lanes between Montlake Boulevard and the floating bridge on Lake Washington.
Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, the off-ramp to Columbian Way and the West Seattle Bridge will close, along with the right lane of southbound I-5 in the same area. During the closure, crews will work on expansion joints and paving. The lane will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday.
The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Mercer Street will also close on Friday starting at 9 p.m. as part of the SR 520/I-5 Express Lanes Connection Project. That work will wrap up at 4 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3.
Alternate routes
Interstate 90 will remain open across Lake Washington during the weekend closure.
Those seeking to get on the West Seattle Bridge from I-5 south will detour via Michigan Street and onto northbound I-5 and use the northbound off-ramp.
The SR 520 Trail will also remain open during the weekend closure.
