Heavy snow caused hazardous driving conditions over Stevens and Snoqualmie passes Dec. 18.

MONROE, Wash. — Stevens and Snoqualmie passes reopened after hours-long closures Saturday night.

Both passes opened around 10 p.m., with Stevens Pass requiring chains on all vehicles but those with all-wheel drive.

Traction tires are advised over Snoqualmie Pass.

US 2 was closed around 6 p.m. in both directions after multiple spinouts and hazardous conditions caused by a winter storm.

On the west side of the Cascades, US 2 was closed beyond milepost 58, just east of Skykomish, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. It was closed at Deception Falls on the east side.

The conditions and spinouts caused a large backup of vehicles.

I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass was closed in both directions shortly after Stevens due to spinouts and conditions. Eastbound traffic was stopped near North Bend and Denny Creek. Westbound traffic is stopped near Easton and Cle Elum.

A Winter Storm Warning expired Saturday night. Heavy snow was expected to continue above 3,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
