On-ramp in Tukwila closes indefinitely after hole discovered in roadway

A culvert failure is believed to be the cause of the hole in the on-ramp to state Route 518.

TUKWILA, Wash. — The eastbound state Route 518 on-ramp from state Route 99 in Tukwila was closed indefinitely Tuesday afternoon following a culvert failure, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The on-ramp was closed after crews found a hole in the roadway.

"We are working with specialty contractors to assess the area and develop a repair plan," a statement from the Department of Transportation reads.

The detour is for drivers to take South 160th Street to eastbound state Route 518.

The Department of Transportation warns drivers leaving Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to plan for delays if they are heading in that direction.

The hole is a different type of roadway failure from the one discovered in Everett Tuesday morning, according to the Department of Transportation.
