SEATTLE — The Washington State Transportation Commission met with the Oregon Department of Transportation Tuesday to discuss tolls on the Interstate Bridge that connects the two states.
The current bridge goes across the Columbia River. Programs are working to replace it due to aging.
The two commissions laid out options for future tolls for the updated bridge. Some pre-completion toll rate costs range from $1.55 to $3.20. but some post-completion prices could go up to $3.65.
Each state commission needs a majority vote to pass the proposed tolls.
"You're barking up a wrong tree," a concerned community member said at the meeting Tuesday. "(The toll) should just be eliminated. Immediately."
Construction of the bridge is expected to begin in early 2026 and tolling in spring 2026. Officials said there are plans to reduce tolls once construction is paid off.
