SEATTLE — Construction work on the 107-year-old Ballard Bridge and 15th Avenue began in July and traffic is expected to be impacted as crews close the bridge this weekend.
Here's what you should know.
The Seattle Department of Transportation's 15th Ave W/NW and Ballard Bridge Paving and Safety Project includes paving, maintenance and preservation work on the bridge and ADA and sidewalk improvements on the east side of 15th Ave NW at NW 57th St. and NW 56th St.
The full bridge closure will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and will last until 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers are asked to use the Aurora Bridge and expect travel delays in the area.
More weekend-long closures are expected throughout September and October.
The majority of the work on the Ballard Bridge will be done overnight Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The Seattle Department of Transportation will temporarily close some lanes of traffic and move a couple of bus stops during the construction work.
The east side of the bridge will be closed to walking and biking but the west side will remain open.
The 15th Ave NW work will be done Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. One lane will close on the east side of 15th Ave NW. NW 57th St and NW 56th St will be closed to westbound traffic from 14th Ave NW to 15th Ave NW. The Seattle Department of Transportation will place detour signs in the impacted areas.
