As the holiday travel season continues, Sea-Tac Airport expects it to be another busy day.
The Transportation Security Administration previously said this holiday season it will screen 6 percent more travelers nationwide than last year.
At Sea-Tac, TSA anticipated an 11 percent increase in travelers flying out of the airport. Between December 21 and 26 TSA expected to screen over 2.7 million people per day nationwide and an average of about 60,000 passengers per day out of Sea-Tac.
To quickly make your way through security, TSA has several recommendations for streamlining your packing:
Double check your bag before you pack
Many passengers grab their bag without checking through all the pockets and compartments. By checking what's inside your bag you can make sure you're not accidentally bringing any prohibited items like pocket knives and liquids in containers larger than 3.4 oz.
Dress for security screening
What you wear can greatly decrease the time you spend in the security line. Avoid clothing items with metal such as belt buckles, jewelry, and hair accessories. These items could set off the detector. You can also save time by wearing slip-on shoes.
Wrap your gifts in bags instead of wrapping paper
All items, including gifts, are screened the same way in the security line. If a wrapped gift sets off the security alarm, a TSA agent will have to unwrap it to screen it. Consider placing your items in gift bags to avoid unwrapping if one of your presents gets selected for screening or waiting until arriving at your destination to wrap your presents.
Food and liquids follow normal guidelines
Solid foods are allowed in carry-on luggage and will be screened the same as any other solid items. Liquid-consistency foods, such as jams, jellies, sauces, or gravies, must be stored in containers 3.4 oz or less. Anything larger must be place in a checked bag.
Make electronics accessible
When packing your carry-on make sure that your electronics such as laptops, tablets, cellphones, and cameras are easily accessible in their own pouches or on top of other items in your bag. This way they can quickly be placed in security bins during screening.
