Paine Field passengers will soon be able to fly to a new destination: Palm Springs.
Alaska Airlines announced Wednesday it would add a daily flight to Palm Springs in November and a second daily flight Phoenix in August.
The airline said Palm Springs was “number one on our guests’ wish list” for the next destination from Paine Field in Everett.
“After three months of flying at Everett, we thought this was a good time to make adjustments to improve the flying experiences for our guests,” Noelle Fredrickson, general manager of network planning and strategy for Alaska Airlines, said in a statement.
Tickets are on sale for Palm Springs and Phoenix flights, which will launch November 5 and August 26, respectively. Palm Springs-bound planes will leave Everett daily at 12:20 p.m. and return at 3:55 p.m.
Alaska will also cut one daily flight to Portland and Los Angeles to stay within its limit of 18 daily flights at the airport. Alaska says it hopes the changes will make traveling “more convenient and efficient” for passengers.
Paine Field, which last month was named the “World’s Best Regional Airport” by Monocle Magazine, launched commercial passenger service in March. It’s the first time in decades commercial passengers have been able to fly out of the airport.
Between March and the end of May, over 160,000 passengers flew from Paine Field with Alaska, according to the airline.
United Airlines also flies out of Paine Field, offering six daily flights to Denver and San Francisco.
