After a long and wet winter, hiking season and 'Ben There Done That' is back! Our first hike of the season is Mailbox Peak, suggested by Wes Moore.
There are two ways to get to Mailbox Peak: the old trail and the new trail. The old trail is the stuff of legend that folks training for a Mount Rainier summit would tackle. It’s an unrelenting rocky, rooted, muddy hike of misery.
The new trail is much easier on the body even if it’s quite a bit further. It uses more switchbacks and gentle elevation gains to reach the top. Still, you’re looking at nearly 9.5 miles and about 4,000 feet elevation gain. The new trail is no picnic.

Up top, you’re greeted with wonderful views of the Snoqualmie area, Mount Si, Mount Rainier, and even downtown Seattle. If you look down into the valley to the south, you’ll see Interstate 90 about 4,000 feet below.
