Helene formed Wednesday into a major hurricane on Wednesday, and its projected path has significant implications for Georgia with an expected arrival in metro Atlanta after midnight in the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 27.

Helene is about to undergo rapid intensification leading up to landfall late Thursday near Apalachicola. Helene is currently producing sustained winds of 90 mph with stronger gusts as it moves NNE at 12 mph.
