SEATTLE — A new weather system is bringing above-average temperatures to western Washington just in time for Labor Day weekend.
A ridge of high pressure is building over the region, bringing the hottest temperatures Friday through Sunday, according to the KING 5 Weather Team.
High temperatures will be in the 70s along the coast and areas near inland waters, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Areas farther inland are expected to see high temperatures in the 80s. Some areas to the east, like Packwood and Randle, have a 70-80% chance of seeing temperatures exceeding 90 degrees on Friday and 95 degrees on Saturday, according to the NWS.
Temperatures are trending cooler for Labor Day. Expect partly sunny skies with daytime high temperatures in the low to mid-70s, with more cooling to come on Tuesday, according to the KING 5 Weather Team. The new system could bring chances for rain, however that could change. After a brief cool-down at the beginning of the week, temperatures look to climb back near the 80s before the weekend.
Heat Advisory for Central Washington
For those traveling east for Labor Day weekend, be aware that there is a Heat Advisory in place from 11 a.m. on Saturday to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
The high temperatures will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illness for those who are sensitive to it, especially those without adequate cooling or hydration, according to the National Weather Service.
In Yakima, temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s on Saturday and Sunday, only falling a little bit on Labor Day and the early part of next week.
