SEATTLE - The National Weather Service says Seattle has broken a record for winter rainfall.

Between the beginning of December and Thursday night, a total of 22.78 inches of rain fell at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the official climate station for Seattle.

That beats the previous record of 22.77 inches set in the winter of 1998 through 1999, by a smidge.

But as meteorologist Andy Haner points out, February is not over and the rain is going to keep falling. More rain was falling Friday in Seattle. Saturday is expected to be dry but more rain is expected on Sunday.

The winter months have also been warmer than usual in Seattle, with no measurable snow and higher than average temperatures in December, January and February.
