SEATTLE — There still is just under a month of summer remaining on the calendar, but one notable feature of the season is set to end after Monday night.
August 26 will be the final day of an 8 p.m. or later sunset in the region until mid-April 2025, the National Weather Service (NWS) said on social media Monday.
April 15 was the first 8 p.m. sunset of 2024, and the NWS projects the same date in 2025 to be the next time the sun sets at 8 p.m. after Monday.
Western Washington gains the most amount of daylight near the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, and it slows down as we near the summer and winter solstices.
In addition to the final 8 p.m. sunset, more rain will fall upon western Washington in what has been a rainy end to the month of August.
Seattle also had two of its coldest back-to-back days in August in 80 years, the NWS said over the weekend. There also was more rain on August 17, 23, and 24 of this year than there was in all of July and August between 2020 and 2023.
