KITSAP, Wash. — The threat of snow sent Mason and Kitsap students home early on Tuesday.
Hundreds of North Mason School District families got phone calls early Tuesday informing them schools would be running on half-day schedules, because of afternoon snow in the forecast.
Students from the high and middle schools were sent home at 11:30 a.m., elementary school students were released at 12:50 p.m.
Central Kitsap schools were also on half-day schedules Tuesday.
North Mason Superintendent Dana Rosenbach said students in her district live in higher elevations and she didn’t want bus drivers, parents, or students to face challenging driving conditions.
School bus driver Cherie White said going to the half-day schedule was a good call.
“Absolutely. Absolutely. Safer for the kids, safer for everybody,” said Marie.
Mother Heidi Dearinger was grateful she could pick up her 10-year-old son early.
”We’re up higher. Overnight once we got 12 inches and we were stuck for a while,” said Dearinger.
Rosenbach said a decision about Wednesday’s schedule would be made Wednesday morning.
