Summer weather in western Washington winds down this week

The expected final 70 and 80 degree days of 2024 are upon us.

SEATTLE — The autumnal equinox arrived on Sunday, and as the season formally turns to fall, the warm weather is expected to wind down this week.

Highs in western Washington are expected to linger in the mid-70s and low 80s on Monday and Tuesday this week, but autumnal weather is expected to become the norm for the foreseeable future.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says Seattle's average final 75-degree or higher day of the calendar year is Sept. 25.

KING 5's weather team projects a high of 77 on Tuesday at Sea-Tac, followed by highs ranging from 62-66 for the rest of the week.

Rain chances are expected beginning Wednesday afternoon through Friday, but the first full autumn weekend is not currently forecast to include any showers.

NWS says the average first 70 degree day is April 15 in a given year.

In addition to the cessation of 70 degree temperatures, the Seattle area also will see its final 7 p.m. sunset of 2024 this week.
