Dense Fog Advisory expires after hazardous driving conditions throughout Puget Sound area

Visibility was down to 1/2 to 1/4 mile around much of the Puget Sound area Wednesday morning.

SEATTLE — There was low visibility on the roads amid a period of dense fog in the Puget Sound region Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory that expired at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The advisory impacted the Hood Canal area, Bellevue and surrounding areas, Bremerton, Everett, Seattle, Tacoma and the Southwest Interior.

Visibility was between a quarter and half a mile, according to the NWS. This made driving conditions potentially hazardous for those making early morning commutes.

Drivers were asked to make sure they had their headlights turned on, go slower than they normally would and keep a good following distance between themselves and other drivers.

There were also patches of freezing fog, which could cause black ice to form on the roadways. This impacted areas primarily south of the Puget Sound.

The NWS also issued a Dense Fog Advisory on Monday morning.

The pattern of foggy mornings and partly sunny afternoons is expected to change after Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to warm slightly, accompanied by a light round of showers. Breezy winds and more widespread precipitation are expected to arrive on Friday, which will stick around through the weekend. The moisture will primarily impact the Olympic Peninsula and the north Cascade mountains, according to the NWS. The lowlands are also expected to see around an inch of rainfall over the course of the weekend.
