SEATTLE — While residents in parts of western Washington woke up to snow on Thursday morning, conditions are drying into the afternoon and evening.
Thurston County and the Kitsap Peninsula were especially impacted by snowfall. KING 5 reporters noted between an inch to 3 inches of slushy wet snow over roadways on the peninsula and in Olympia early in the morning. Viewers reported up to 5 inches on parts of the peninsula, including near Belfair.
Those accumulations quickly melted.
A Winter Weather Warning for the southwest interior and Hood Canal area, including Olympia, Shelton and Centralia expired at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to warm as the day goes on as a low-level easterly flow weakens, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Generally drier conditions are expected to follow until Friday afternoon when some rain chances return to the Olympic Peninsula.
The mountains were also expected to see snow from this system. Mount Baker saw trace amounts of accumulations while Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes saw 3 inches. Crystal Mountain saw the highest snowfall total, accumulating 11 inches, while White Pass saw 6.
The Cascades of Lewis and Pierce counties, including Paradise and Crystal Mountain, will be under a Winter Weather Advisory through Thursday night.
