SEATTLE — Snow and rain are forecasted for much of western Washington this weekend and the National Weather Service has issued both a Winter Storm Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory. Here's what you should know.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades in Whatcom and Skagit Counties which will go into effect from 4 p.m. Friday until 4 p.m. Saturday.
The NWS has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of the Cascade Range in the state and much of the Olympic Peninsula from 4 p.m. Friday until 4 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday will see a cold front swinging through western Washington during the morning. As far as precipitation, steady rain will change to showers by midday in the lowlands.
Both rain in the lowlands and snow in the Cascades are expected to decrease during Saturday afternoon. Snow totals in the Cascades are expected to total anywhere from 6 to 12 inches at levels around 1,000-1,500 feet by the afternoon. The NWS forecasted 8 to 14 inches for levels above 2,000 feet.
Snow totals are forecasted to reach 12 to 24 inches at levels above 2,000 for the Cascades in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
