More rain, windy conditions on tap for western Washington next few days

Sunday will see a little pause with off and on showers and sunbreaks. After that, a very rainy and windy weather system will surge inland Monday and Tuesday.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — People were out enjoying the fresh snow at Snoqualmie Pass on Saturday for the first time this season, but more rain and less snow is in the forecast this week.

Snow levels will rise to 4,000 feet Sunday, which turn will turn things to rain at Snoqualmie Pass. There will be a wet snow or rain/snow mix at Stevens Pass.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Advisory for the Cascades that's in effect until 12 a.m. Sunday for areas above 2,500 feet. 

There will be showers in the mountains on Sunday and elevations above 4,500 feet will get accumulating snow.

SR 20, or North Cascades Highway, has temporarily closed until Nov. 16 due to heavy snowfall and risk of avalanche danger, according to WSDOT. The closure is between milepost 134, east of Diablo Lake, and milepost 171 at Silver Star Gate west of Winthrop.

Cayuse and Chinook passes have closed for the season due to heavy snow.

The system moving into the area Saturday night will bring another round of lowland rain and mountain snow, but this system will not be as strong as the one Friday morning.

Snow levels will rise above 6,000 feet through Wednesday. 

The warmer temperatures will bring 1 to 3 inches of rainfall across the Olympic Peninsula Monday through Wednesday, which means rivers flowing off the Olympics will experience rapid raises. 

The five counties that need to monitor rivers are Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, and Grays Harbor.
