SEATTLE — Fall officially arrived Monday, but fall weather had already moved into western Washington.
Sea-Tac Airport surpassed the average monthly rainfall for September mid-month on Sept. 14 with 1.66 inches of rain. The monthly norm is 1.5 inches. The rainfall total as of Monday morning (2.77 inches) is over one and three-quarters of an inch above the norm, and there is still more rain in the forecast.
So far this is the 14th wettest September on record.
The influx of rain has dropped the severe drought for parts of western Washington; however, we could still use a little more. Even though it's been a rainier than normal September, we're still about three inches short of where we typically are this time of year.

The rain isn't over either. Several systems have the potential to dump more rain this first week of fall.
The national Climate Prediction Center predicted a wetter than normal October, which is a month that already sees nearly 3.5 inches of rain on average. November is typically the wettest month of the year in Seattle, receiving an average of 6.57 inches of rain.
The rainy season is upon us. Time to reach for the rain gear!
