Seattle just experienced its third warmest spring on record.
The average temperature from March through May at Sea-Tac Airport was 53.8 degrees, the National Weather Service said Saturday.
Although astronomical spring lasts through June 20, meteorological summer kicked off Saturday, which is the date the weather service uses to keep track of seasonal records.
During the last three months, Seattle had 21 days at or above 70 degrees, which is the third most on record. That also includes a few record-setting scorchers, such as back-to-back 79-degree days on March 19 and 20 and an 86-degree high on May 10.
Overall, Seattle experienced 56 days this spring with above normal temperatures.
Looking at long-range forecasts, the warm temps may stick around for summer. The national Climate Prediction Center forecasted last month there’s a 50 percent chance that June, July, and August will be warmer than normal.
However, for the next week at least it looks like western Washington will return to its traditional "June gloom" with cloudier days and cooler temperatures in the high 60's.
