BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Coastal areas in Washington this weekend will be under a Wind Advisory Sunday with southern wind gusts expected from 15 to 30 miles per hour, and possibly up to 45 miles per hour.

The Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for the Admiralty Inlet area, San Juan County, western Skagit County and western Whatcom County.

The strongest wind gusts will be along the water, according to the National Weather Service

The winds could cause minor tree damage and isolated power outages, according to KING 5 Chief Meteorologist Mike Everett. It could also make for dangerous conditions out on the water.

Beyond the strong winds, heavy rains associated with an atmospheric river will soak the Olympic Peninsula and King, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties. As much as 3 to 6 inches of rain could fall along the coast and in the mountains - and possibly higher. Up to 4 inches of rain could fall in the northern interior, according to Everett.

The heavy rain could cause pooling on roadways and rivers to rise. River flooding is not currently forecasted.
