Washington State Patrol Trooper Shaneka Phillips was born in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1987. She was raised in a military household and grew up in several different states. She graduated high school in Phoenix, Ariz., in 2005 and moved to Washington in 2006. She is the first person in her entire family to become a law enforcement officer and she has been with the Washington State Patrol for 11 years. After being sworn in in 2011, Phillips worked patrol on the Tacoma freeway for her first seven years. She also assisted with recruitment and was a backup PIO for a year. In 2018, Phillips was assigned to the Special Operations Division in a Specialty Unit. She has been a member of the Washington State Patrol Honor guard since 2013, and has participated in and attended several memorial services to honor fallen officers from around the country. She has also attended several community events and traveled to Washington D.C. for National Police Week mulitple times, where the Washington State Patrol won third place. When she's not working, Phillips enjoys spending time with friends and family, including her dog Simba, traveling, hiking, kayaking and working her second career in the mortgage industry.
