15-year-old arrested in connection to fatal Parkland shooting

The suspect appeared in court Monday and the judge ordered him to remain in custody.

PARKLAND, Wash. — A 15-year-old was arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that happened near state Route 7 in Parkland last month.

The July 31 shooting resulted in the death of 19-year-old Japree Marcus, according to the Piercy County Medical Examiner's Office.

According to Sgt. Darren Moss with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the man was found dead at the scene near 119th Street and Pacific Avenue. A gun was found on the ground at the scene, along with multiple unspent rounds and shell casings.

Officials arrested the suspect Aug. 10. They were able to identify the suspect after a police dash camera captured him and a woman leaving an area in a red Tahoe, which resembled a vehicle described by witnesses.

The suspect appeared in court Monday and the judge ordered him to remain in custody. 

The suspect was booked on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
