15-year-old arrested in Mount Baker homicide, police say

The teenage male was arrested one day after a man was killed in a shooting.

SEATTLE — Police arrested a 15-year-old in connection to a homicide in the city's Mount Baker neighborhood last weekend.

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) said detectives arrested the teenager Monday, one day after the deadly shooting. He was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center, King County's youth detention facility, for investigation of murder, police said.

According to the SPD, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3600 block of 34th Avenue South just after 2 a.m. Sunday. Arriving officers reportedly found a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the stairwell of a building.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The 15-year-old male had his first court hearing Tuesday afternoon. The court ordered the teen held in secure detention after finding probable cause for second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement and unlawful possession of a firearm.

It is unclear what led up to the homicide. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said they expect an update on the homicide case by Friday afternoon.
