TACOMA, Wash. — An 18-year-old man was charged Tuesday in connection to the death of a 17-year-old girl in Tacoma.
The suspect, Aiden Tyrrell, was arrested Tuesday when he turned himself in, according to police. He was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Tyrrell appeared in court on March 27 and his bail is set at $3 million.
On Saturday, the 17-year-old girl was shot at South Ridgewood Avenue and South 15th Street on Saturday evening.
According to the Tacoma Police Department, Tyrrell and the girl were previously in a romantic relationship. Court documents allege they broke up but were still in contact at the time of the shooting.
Police recovered the girl's cell phone at the scene and discovered Tyrrell and the girl got into an argument over text on Thursday. He then showed up at her home and shot into her next-door neighbor's apartment and left the scene.
Then, on Saturday, he went back to her apartment to give her back her belongings since they were broken up, but when he pulled up to her, he allegedly shot her and drove away, documents said.
According to court documents, the girl was on the phone with a family member at the time of the shooting, who said she was expecting Tyrrell. She waited outside for him to give her her things, and the person on the phone said she then heard "muffled noises" and screaming.
The girl was shot in the torso and was taken to a nearby hospital by her father, where she later died.
