'He was a bloody mess': Mom of teen hit-and-run victim is angry, wants driver punished

According to Bellevue Police, a group of teenage girls in a Silver Hyundai Elantra car hit the 13-year-old on purpose. He was riding home from Meydenbauer Bay Park.

BELLEVUE, Wash — Sabrina Henderson said the left side of her 13-year-old son's body is bruised and battered after Bellevue police say a driver intentionally hit the boy along Lake Washington Boulevard on July 13.

Police are searching for the person responsible. Henderson is pleading with the public to come forward with information.

"We don’t want them to do this to anybody else. It could have been so much worse and it could be worse for the next person," she said.

Through its investigation, Bellevue police have determined the driver and passengers were teenage girls. A witness told police he saw the driver speeding down the street, blasting loud music, and intentionally strike the boy.

“He heard the music behind him. He looked and just kept going. All of a sudden, he feels the pressure of the car hitting him. Then, falling over and sliding on the concrete," Henderson said.

Bellevue police provided one description: the driver had short, black hair. However, the department released traffic cam video showing the silver Hyundai Elantra officers believe was used in the hit-and-run. Its front bumper is damaged and it has a red/black sunshade.

Bellevue Police believe this car was used in the hit-and-run that left a 13-year-old bruised and battered.

To add insult to injury, Henderson said the teens threw a shoe and yelled at him before running him over.

“It’s just unreal. It’s infuriating," she said. "Very orchestrated. No remorse. They didn’t stop. They just kept going on. He was a bloody mess left on the side of the road by teenagers. Teenagers who intended for that to happen.”

Henderson described her son as a sweet kid who regularly rides his bike to and from Meydenbauer Bay Park. She said he's trying to understand why it was him that was targeted.

“It angers me. I’m grateful that he was able to walk away with no broken bones, with his life but he is just very beat up," she said.

Police are asking the public to come forward with any information that could help them find the individuals in that car. If found, the suspects could face second-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief charges.
