RENTON, Wash. — The 16-year-old suspected of shooting and killing a 15-year-old in Renton over the weekend was on electronic home monitoring for an alleged drive-by about five months prior, according to prosecutors.
The court set bail for the 16-year-old suspect at $1 million on Monday, April 15. The court previously found probable cause for second-degree manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, the 16-year-old called 911 and reported to police that he shot someone, according to the Renton Police Department. The shooting took place in a home near the 600 block of Camas Avenue Northeast.
At the home, officers found a 15-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries from the shooting, police said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Police said the boy died from his injuries Sunday, April 14.
Police are working to determine if, or how, the two teens knew each other. Authorities did not say if the shooting was accidental or deliberate.
In court on April 15, the 16-year-old's attorney pointed out he called 911 and didn't flee. His attorney asked he be released on home monitoring and requested bail be set at $10,000 with a cash alternative of 10%.
Prosecutors pointed out the suspect had another case pending and requested he be held without bail.
A judge said electronic home monitoring was no longer appropriate for the 16-year-old because he violated conditions of his release for the other alleged crime and set the $1 million bail with no alternative.
