ENUMCLAW, Wash. — A 63-year-old woman is being held in King County Jail on $100,000 bail for allegedly causing a triple-vehicle fatality crash on state Route 410 near Enumclaw on Sunday morning.
The woman, who has not been formally charged so KING 5 is not naming her, is being held on probable cause for two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) said the woman was traveling along the westbound lanes of SR 410 just before 11:45 a.m. Witnesses told state troopers that the woman entered the eastbound lane while traveling westbound, attempting to pass a row of eight to 10 vehicles, according to probable cause documents. She was in a no-passing zone at the time and was traveling "much faster" than the rest of traffic.
As she came around a corner, there was a vehicle traveling eastbound. The woman swerved back into the westbound lane, striking the rear of a Subaru, causing it to be pushed into the eastbound lane and directly in line with a Honda FIT. The Honda FIT t-boned the Subaru.
A 72-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman in the Subaru were killed in the crash, according to the WSP.
Investigators said the occupants of the Honda were taken by helicopter to a Seattle area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A dog in the Honda was also injured and taken to an emergency veterinarian in Auburn.
SR 410 between Twin Creek Bridge and Mud Mountain Dam Road was fully closed for over five hours while authorities investigated the deadly crash.
