Suspect in fatal Renton stabbing charged with murder as prosecutors push to increase bail

Prosecutors asked for $2 million bail for Jimerson at his initial court appearance, but a judge "inexplicably" instead set it at $50,000.

RENTON, Wash. — A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed another man inside a Renton apartment.

K'Shawn K. Jimerson stabbed a 65-year-old man who was inside his apartment at least once, court documents say.

Police said that Jimerson himself called 911 to report the stabbing, and he was standing outside his apartment when officers arrived at the scene. The victim was found unconscious on a couch inside the residence with a shirt that was soaked in blood.

A witness who lives in the apartment adjacent to Jimerson said the victim was hired to do work at the apartment by Jimerson's aunt, whom he was living with. The witness said he heard an argument and scuffle before seeing Jimerson standing outside the apartment with a bloody knife.

When police secured a search warrant for the apartment, officers found blood throughout the unit and a bloody knife that had been submerged in water in the sink, court documents say.

A Ring Camera showed Jimerson striking the victim in the back of the head with a stick when he was walking out of the apartment's front entrance. The victim chased Jimerson inside, and was stabbed by Jimerson just seconds later, court documents say.

Prosecutors say they asked for $2 million bail due to the violent nature of the crime. "Although the Defendant committed a gratuitously violent crime, inexplicably, bail was set at only $50,000 on the basis of a lack of criminal history and ties to the community," wrote King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Logan Bryant in court documents.

Jimerson was released from custody the day after he was arrested after he posted bond.

A separate motion is being filed by King County prosecutors to increase Jimerson's bail to $2 million in light of the additional evidence gathered from the Ring Camera.

Jimerson's arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 16.
