TACOMA, Wash. — The suspect in a stabbing at Point Defiance Park in February has been arrested in San Francisco, according to the Tacoma Police Department.
On Feb. 10, a woman walking on the trails of 5-Mile Drive was allegedly stabbed by a man and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
On Feb. 18, Tacoma police released a sketch of the suspect and said they were able to identify the suspect.
Authorities were granted a confidential warrant for first-degree attempted murder and learned the suspect was possibly in Atlanta, Georgia. Tacoma Police Department detectives traveled to Atlanta to apprehend the suspect and discovered he was attempting to flee the country.
On Friday, Tacoma detectives with the assistance of the San Francisco Office of the Federal Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force and San Francisco Police Department arrested the suspect at the San Francisco International Airport without incident.
The suspect is currently waiting to be extradited to Washington state.
Tacoma police said more information will be released in the coming days. They said the investigation is ongoing.
Last month the victim came forward.
"I was one wrong move from being killed. I was completely alone, and I still can't believe I survived,” said the woman police are referring to as “Jane” to protect her privacy.
Jane said she was walking in the park when a man came up behind her and began stabbing her over and over again.
"I begged him to let me go, that I could give him money, that I could give him anything he wanted if I could live. That is when he made it verbally explicit that his intent was to kill me,” said Jane.
She said she was fighting back and screaming when witnesses stepped in to help.
