REDMOND, Wash. — Several cities have opened shelters and warming centers for residents impacted by Tuesday night’s wind storm, which whipped winds across Puget Sound cities.
The storm caused widespread damage, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people, sending at least five people to the hospital in Seattle, and killing two women, one in Bellevue and another in Lynnwood.
Below is information about shelters and warming centers in impacted cities:
Duvall
Duvall's City Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Residents are encouraged to visit the facility to warm up, charge phones or devices and rest. City Hall is located at 15535 Main St. NE.
Issaquah
Beginning Thursday, the Issaquah Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Residents will be able to charge their phones, use the free WiFi or get help from staff onsite. The center will open each day until power is restored citywide, according to Mayor Mary Lou Pauly.
Kirkland
The North Kirkland Community Center (12421 103rd Ave. NE) is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, for residents to charge small electronics and medical equipment. The city asks people to bring their own charges and cords.
Muckleshoot Reservation
Muckleshoot Community Center is open overnight for Tribal members and their immediate family members only. The emergency shelter offers cots, food and entertainment, however, Tribal members and visitors are asked to bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.
Redmond
The mayor of Redmond issued an emergency proclamation due to the damaging winds. Thousands of residents are still without power, and Mayor Angela Birney says the declaration will allow a faster response to power restoration, debris clearing and individual emergencies.
Three warming centers are also open in the city:
- City Hall: Open until 5 p.m., located at 15670 NE 85th St.
- Redmond Senior & Community Center: Open until 9 p.m., located at 8703 160th Ave NE
- Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village: Open until 8 p.m., located at 6505 176th Ave NE
Sammamish
The City of Sammamish is opening its City Hall as a warming center from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.
Parks remain closed to the public and residents are asked to shelter in place if able. City crews are working to remove debris from priority roadways needed by first responders and then will move into smaller streets, the city stated.
Woodinville
Woodinville has opened its City Hall to allow residents to warm up and charge any essential devices during the daytime. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 and located at 17301 133rd Ave. NE.
