SEATTLE — A dog that went missing after a fire at a SODO dog daycare Monday night was found days later and is receiving emergency care, according to a Facebook post from the dog's owner.
Allison Scarborough, who is abroad in Japan, posted on Facebook that her dog, Remi, was found Thursday by Seattle Animal Control. Remi reportedly fell off an on-ramp near Lumen Field and is at a veterinarian in critical condition, Scarborough said in the post. Remi was missing for three days.
At least one other dog is still missing after the fire: North, a black and white collie/shepard.
Several dogs were evacuated from a dog daycare in Seattle's SODO neighborhood Monday night when a fire broke out on the second floor of the Dog Resort.
When firefighters originally responded to the scene in the 600 block of South Industrial Way, multiple dogs were still on the loose.
David Cuerpo, the public information officer for the Seattle Fire Department, said the fire was reported by staff just after 8:30 p.m. Staff members then immediately started to evacuate all the dogs and relocated them to a fenced-in, outdoor area.
Seattle police officers also responded to the scene. The officer helped corral loose dogs and shut down nearby streets as a preventative measure.
The dogs that were not picked up by their owners were taken to the Downtown Dog Lounge on Mercer Street by animal advocates.
Scarborough is trying to piece together what happened to her two beloved dogs, Georgie and Remi.
"She was my soul sister," Scarborough said Tuesday. "She was like the perfect dog. I can't imagine ever having another dog so perfect,” said Scarborough. “I love Remi but I actually got Remi for Georgie, she's my mom's soul sister.”
Scarborough boarded her two dogs while she was on her trip. She never expected to get a call from the Washington State Department of Transportation giving her news about Georgie, who ran from the fire and ended up on Interstate 5.
Scarborough could not understand how her dog ended up on the side of I-5 when Georgie was supposed to be cared for.
"I don't know if I'll ever get a dog," Scarborough said Tuesday. "When you give it to someone and they kill it. And they're supposed to be taking care of it."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Dog Resort owns another location on Lake City Way that caught fire earlier this year. The fire caused about $300,000 in damage, according to Seattle Fire. Investigators said it was started by a dryer and ruled an accident. While two dogs had to be taken to the veterinarian to be treated for smoke inhalation, all the dogs survived and recovered.
