SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigation two separate hit-and-runs that happened Feb. 17.
In both cases police said a car drove onto a sidewalk and ran someone over.
The first incident happened at Dexter Avenue North and Harrison Street where a man reported to police a car drove onto the sidewalk directly at him. The man said he tried to get out of the way but was hit and taken to the hospital with injuries to his hips and legs.
A police report states security at an adjacent building saw what happened and showed police surveillance footage.
An hour later at East Prospect Street and 19th Avenue East in Capitol Hill, police responded to a homeless man that was run over while he was asleep. The man told police he was awoken by a car running over both of his legs. He was treated on scene by firefighters and is expected to be OK.
People who live and work in the area tell KING 5 he's become a regular in the community and has been sleeping there for months. Several people described him as kind and were shocked by the news.
"I've seen him almost every morning on this block. It's good that he's ok, but it's horrible anyone would try to hurt him," said Johnny Bewscher, who works nearby.
In a report, police noted the man was a reasonable distance from the road. The man showed police black streak marks on his yellow sleeping bag from the hit-and-run. The victim said he didn't get a good look at the driver, but described the vehicle as a blue sedan and said they were driving like a "bat out of hell."
"It's deplorable. I don’t understand that kind of behavior, its disgusting," Bewscher said.
These two cases come after a 13-year-old and 15 year-old were charged earlier this month for intentionally running over two women along Aurora Avenue.
In the latest incidents, Seattle police said in both cases the vehicle descriptions are similar and they are working to determine the make and model and if the two incidents are connected.
