Family grieves Poulsbo teens allegedly killed by half-brother

The bodies of Sebastian and Scotty Bass were found inside their home on Wednesday, Oct 9. Their half-brother has been charged for their deaths.

POULSBO, Wash. — The older sister of two Poulsbo teenagers allegedly killed by their half-brother at their home says the family is heartbroken and confused.

The bodies of Sebastian and Scotty Bass, ages 16 and 17, were discovered by Kitsap County Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

According to court documents, both of their throats had been slit.

Seth South, 23, their half-brother who also lived in the home, is charged with two counts of second-degree domestic violence murder.

"We're all kind of in shock, we don't understand what's going on or what happened," said Shyanne South, Seth's older sister and the victims' half-sister.

Despite being half-siblings, she said they all grew up together and were close.

"It's difficult to think Scotty and Sebastian are gone [and] Seth is here... but he's also gone," Shyanne said. "Grieving him feels wrong, like an injustice to Scotty and Sebastian. It's so weird to try to understand all the feelings."

"I think we're all grieving Seth and who he was up until Wednesday," she added.

Scotty, the older of the two teens, participated in remote learning and aspired to be a park ranger, Shyanne told KING 5.

"He loved being outdoors and in nature, whether that was on his own, with my dad or camping with my grandpa," she said. "He was really one of the sweetest people I know."

Shyanne said Sebastian attended North Kitsap High School. He enjoyed video games and loved animals.

"He went to the local shelter and adopted a kitten named 'Kitty' and he was really excited to raise this new kitten. He's never really raised a baby animal before and I think it would have been a special journey for him to do that," she said.

Shyanne said her parents moved into the home two years ago and spent a considerable amount of money on improvements, but she doesn't believe they'll be able to return there after the murders.

She started an online fundraiser in hopes of trying to help her parents find a new place to live.
