SEATTLE — Jedd Fisch said all the right things in his introductory press conference to become the new University of Washington head football coach Tuesday.
Many Husky fans felt betrayed by Kalen DeBoer, who left Washington to accept the same position at the University of Alabama late last week, despite leading to the Huskies to the College Football Playoff and the precipice of a national championship.
Fisch understands how Washington fans feel and knows it will take time to earn the trust of the Husky faithful.
"Our goal is to create a future that we are all proud of," Fisch said Tuesday. "This is where we want to win. I will give you everything I have to earn that trust."
Fisch will have a tall task in front of him, as most of UW's key players from last season have either already declared for the NFL draft or have announced they intend to transfer.
Quite a few of Fisch's coaches from Arizona are expected to join his staff at Washington. Reports from the press conference indicate several were in attendance at Husky Stadium.
Fisch was one of the finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award in 2023, an award which ended up going to the man he is replacing at Washington in DeBoer.
Between his NFL qualifications and his expedited turnaround at Arizona, Fisch's arrival should have UW fans looking forward to the future.
However, Fisch's track record does not indicate he's likely to be a long-term fit with the program.
