WSP asks for public's help in finding suspect who threw bricks at vehicles on I-90

A driver was traveling on the interstate near Rainier Avenue when someone threw a brick through the windshield.

SEATTLE — Washington State Patrol (WSP) is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who threw bricks at three vehicles driving along Interstate 90 on July 9.

Around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, a driver reported to WSP that someone threw a brick at their vehicle on westbound I-90 near Rainier Avenue.

Two additional drivers reported similar instances to WSP, occurring in the same area.

The driver with the most significant damage told troopers they were driving on westbound I-90 passing Rainier Avenue in a white box truck when a brick came through the truck’s front windshield. The driver said the brick had been thrown from ground level on the right side of the freeway.

The driver suffered a minor scrape to the arm, WSP said.

Limited description of the suspect is a man wearing all black and a hat. Troopers did not find the suspect in the area when investigating.

In June, several vehicles were hit by debris thrown onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 90, east of the Mount Baker Tunnel, according to Washington State Patrol.

As of June, WSP reports there have been 60 incidents of debris being thrown at vehicles. There were 204 incident during all of last year and 388 incidents in 2021. 

Troopers are asking anyone that may have seen the crime, or the described suspect near the freeway at that time, to call 425-401-7788.

Drivers who witness anyone throwing debris at cars on the freeway are asked to contact WSP to help identify the suspect or suspects in these types of cases.
