LYNNWOOD, Wash. — It’s the official start of winter and most of western Washington is blanketed with snow and ice and on Wednesday overnight temperatures are expected to plunge, well below freezing, which has made an impact on a Lynnwood staple.
Phones were ringing off the hook Wednesday all because of what’s happening outside.
“We definitely can’t go everywhere with this ice on the streets,” said Luzia Tibig, the manager of Stadium Flowers in Lynnwood off Highway 99. “We’ve been here for over 45 years; I’ve been here for 18 years, and this is kind of one of the worst.”
She said the conditions were so bad, she decided to cancel about half of the business’ scheduled deliveries Wednesday and is planning to do the same for Thursday.
“I would say about 300 today would be ideal, before the holiday a few days ahead and we’re doing about 150,” said Tibig.
Early Wednesday afternoon the main roads in Lynnwood were treated but some of the residential roads looked treacherous. But those conditions didn’t stop one longtime customer from showing up, Ed Schweihs who went to Stadium Flowers to do something special for his wife who unfortunately passed away six months ago.
“I go there every day for two hours and sit with her and walk with her because we used to walk together,” said Schweihs. “So, I come here every week to 10 days to get a fresh new beautiful arrangement of flowers.”
But due to the cold conditions he decided to hold off on bringing the flower arrangement to his wife’s grave.
But it was all worth it for Schweihs. “We all have people that we love, family, friends and all that, but then we also have people that we absolutely live for and she was the one I lived for,” said Schweihs.
